Who's in My Corner

Kadi Prescott over at GirlyGazette.com is having a week's worth of positivity for women, which I think is the best idea I've heard in a long time. So naturally, I had to come and play along. Today the assignment is to define your "tribe" - those people who have your back and make you feel fabulous about yourself.
My tribe is probably different than a lot of people's. For most people, their parents, in-laws, brothers & sisters, and other family members would be the first layer of their tribe. However, due to the fact that most of our family members have passed on, we're pretty lacking in this area. In my town, I have a few nieces and nephews that I see once in a blue moon, but that's about it other than my husband and two sons.
So, in a situation like that, you have to make the best of it. If God doesn't give you the family you wish you had, you have to do what you can to create your own. So, our "substitute family" is made up mostly of close friends from our church. We usually do Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's with different friends from church. Summer barbeques, birthday parties, and any other occasion usually includes a half dozen or so friends from church.
I don't really have any close friends at work, but I do have some good friends I've made through my years at Stampin' Up! In fact, the reason I'm posting this so late at night is because I was out with some of my SU friends for dinner and a team meeting tonight.
Some of them are in-person friends who live locally, but a lot of them are on-line friends from various groups I belong to. I've met a lot of them because they've come here for Convention or other events, but there are quite a few that I've never met.
The same with my blog and Twitter friends. The ones I've met in person I generally have a tighter bond with, but there are so many great friends I've met over the last few years of having a blog, going to conferences and being on Twitter.
They aren't quite "family" yet, but many of them have reached the close friend stage and are very supportive when I need a little boost. It's nice to know that so many people do have your back and that someone is always going to be available if you've had a rough day. And of course, you are there for them as well.
So there you have it - the people who are my support and my lifeline.
