What Makes Me Feel Fabulous!

Kadi Prescott over at GirlyGazette.com is having a week's worth of positivity for women, which I think is the best idea I've heard in a long time. So naturally, I had to come and play along. Today the assignment is to define what makes you feel fabulous about yourself.

I had to think about this one because I don't always feel all that "fabulous", but after a little thought, I was able to come up with my answer. I feel fabulous when I am able to:

provide for my family

Part of that is being able to provide for my family financially. I am proud to say that I am a career woman and that I have been the primary breadwinner for my family since I was about 25. That's something you don't hear a lot of women say out loud, and I certainly don't mean any disrespect to my hard-working husband, but I think it's something to be proud of that I have been able to work hard all these years to provide the things my family needs.

That's a fabulous feeling to know that my family has groceries, clothing, insurance, utilities, transportation, and all the other necessities of life because I am willing to get up and go to work every morning, even if that's not where I'd most like to spend my time.

But I'm also able to provide a lot of other things they need - someone to listen to them and care about them, someone to believe in them and help them achieve their goals. A mother who can set a good example for them and provide them with the education they need to learn the right things, time in a good church so they can learn to do the right things, and a firm hand to teach them what not to do. I help with homework, give them a nudge (or a darn hard push!) when they need to get going in the right direction, and a shoulder to cry on when things go badly. Not to mention a Mama Bear who will come out and open a can of whup-ass if someone doesn't do right by them.

And also a family they can be proud of, a comfortable home to bring their friends home too, an occasional load of laundry, a decent meal now and then (much better now that I've started playing with my Pampered Chef stuff!) plus more computers and video games than any kids could ever want! (Although to be fair, they usually buy those themselves at the used game stores.) But guess who taught them to be such smart shoppers?
