If you'll notice, there is a new little goody over on my sidebar. Several of the blogs I read have been talking about this new website - Fishful Thinking.com. So I decided to pop over there and see what all the fuss was about. It's a website sponsored by Pepperidge Farms, the people who make the Goldfish crackers. It's all about using optimism and positive thinking to raise great kids.

This really struck a chord with me because I am all about the positive thinking. I literally have an entire bookshelf at my house that is devoted to Zig Ziglar, Dale Carnegie, Anthony Robbins, Rhonda Byrne and other positive thinking gurus. So, when Tiffany of the R Family Diaries and SITS invited me to sign up as a Fishful Thinking Ambassador, I thought that sounded like a perfect match for me.

I really like the website. It has a ton of articles, quizzes, and ideas for making your children more positive and resiliant. There's even a kid's portion of the website that has fun games for your kids to play. I found one article that I particularly liked that I passed onto my son's teacher. It's all about "how" to praise your children for the best results. If you praise your child just for being smart, it doesn't have as good an effect on him or her as if you praise them for trying hard. Praising them for trying hard gives them something concrete to do the next time, while praising them for being smart just makes them feel like they are dumb if they aren't successful on the first try.
