We have a new President!

We have a new President and I couldn't be more pleased! We did what little we could to help him along, hosting and attending several different call parties and making a couple of hundred calls on his behalf. I wish we could have done more. But with our help and that of hundreds of thousands of other volunteers, he has made it. I hope he will live up to our high expectations and heal this country. I think he can, but time will tell.

I do feel so sorry for him that his grandmother died so close to his being elected. I know he was very close to her and that has to be a tremendous disappointment for him that she didn't survive to see him actually elected President. But hopefully she is watching him in heaven.

President Obama and Vice President Biden. Sounds a little different, but we'll get used to it.

For my Republican readers, I know you are very disappointed and apprehensive, but I hope you'll sit tight and give the new President a chance. Give him the first 100 days of his Presidency before you make up your mind and see how you feel by then. That will be about April 15th if my math is correct, so maybe by the time you fill out your tax return, you'll see if some of your predictions have come true or maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised. I hope you will.

I just wanted to add a little postscript. This is an E-mail I've just received from President-Elect Obama. I've received dozens of E-mails from him, his wife, and his campaign Manager David Plouffe, among many others throughout this campaign. They have offered me opportunities to make calls, travel to Colorado for the weekend (on their dime!), help out at Headquarters, work in the polls, and donate to the campaign. I don't remember any other President or candidate sending me E-mails - maybe that's part of the difference in this campaign! But I thought this one was a keeper:

Adrian --

I'm about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.

We just made history.

And I don't want you to forget how we did it.

You made history every single day during this campaign -- every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it's time for change.

I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign. We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I'll be in touch soon about what comes next.

But I want to be very clear about one thing...

All of this happened because of you.

Barack

Very well said.
I didn't know that about his grandmother, how sad that she didn't get to be a part of all of this.
