Lego Mama

I am the bestest Mom ever! I spent the whole afternoon at a local Lego event with Blake and we both had a great time. This was a fund-raiser for a local hospital and they were making a whole sort of mural out of Legos to raise money for the hospital.

They had a bunch of tables spread all around and every table was just PILED with Legos. Everyone had these little 4 X 4 base pads and you could fill up as many of them as you wanted with your Lego creations to place on the mural. Here are four of the ones I did, just messing around. Unfortunately, all the other pictures I took got lost between my phone and my E-mail (boo!).

They also had all the Lego vehicle stuff and little people and the kids could make vehicles and race them. Plus food and face painting, balloon animals and all sorts of fun stuff. Blake was most impressed by the life sized Indiana Jones and some Star Wars guy all made out of Legos. Fun stuff. I wish I'd salvaged the picture of his funny vehicle. He rounded up every single Batman-type guy he could find and he must have had 20 of them all crammed onto his vehicle. He really loved it, so he had me take a picture of it, but my phone went and ate it.

It was actually very relaxing to just take a couple of hours and sit there making Lego stuff with my son. I've always loved just plain, old fashioned Legos. I hate the new stuff they've come out with with all these totally specific sets. I think it just puts a lot of pressure on the kids to do it perfectly and then if they lose one piece, they can't do it again. Just seems like it's all about making money instead of just letting kids be creative. I think just back to basics is a lot more fun and there were certainly a lot of kids there today proving the point.

Is it silly that I can't wait to buy legos for my son...so I can play with them with him? :) Right now he has duplos (the big ones), but I look forward to having legos everywhere!!

I totally agree with you on the need for kids to use their imagination. We only have the lego basics, and that's how it'll always be (at least, I can say that now). Glad you had such a great time!
